Rules
The game may seem very complicated and confusing at first, so I'll begin by explaining where everything is located and how to perform certain actions.
When you first open the game a splash screen will will show up for a few seconds, then it will load into the login form. If you decide to start a new file, click the "New Game" button and then enter your name. You can then choose to play on File A, File B, or File C. All previous data saved on whichever file you choose will be lost. The next time you decide to play the game you can choose to continue from where you last left off.
After logging in, the Control Panel will open up. This is the place where just about everything is done. There are three drop-down menus on the top of the form. The properties menu will allow you to customize how the game looks. There are quite a few options to choose from, so you should be able to customize the skin to your liking. This data will not be saved, so the next time you play it will be back to normal.
When you first begin playing, you will not have any music to choose to listen to. As you get to higher levels new music will become available. All of this music is streamed from VGMusic.com, so it will not work if you are not connected to the internet.
The last drop-down menu has two options. You can click the "Play Online" option to retrieve your password to submit online. Do NOT share this password with anyone, as each level has it's own password, and the passwords will work for anyone. The other option is "About". This will open up a form with information about the game, such as version info and copyright notice.
In the Control Panel, you will see two list boxes. One for "enemies", and one for "bosses". They are all ordered by difficulty; the easiest enemy being the Goomba. The easiest boss is harder than the hardest enemy. So if you were to fight all the enemies in order of difficulty, you will not be able to defeat the easiest boss until you are able to defeat the hardest enemy. After you choose something to attack, click the appropriate button, and then battle info will appear to the right. If you die, you can bring yourself back to life by using a potion. If you are dead, and you don't have any potions, or even any money to buy any potions, then you need to restart the game. Make sure to keep an eye on your HP, which is located in the stats frame second from the bottom. The harder the enemy you defeat, the more gold and experience you will get.
When you level up your character, your maximum HP will increase, and you will become much stronger. In addition, the amount of experience you need for the next level will increase. Sometimes you will unlock something when you level up. You may unlock a song to play, or a new game speed. The only game speed available from the start is "Normal". The speed of the game affects how fast the enemy HP drains. From the start of the game, it only drains by about 10 HP per second. It may not seem like a major problem until you start fighting enemies with around 500 HP. A single attack could take almost a minute to make. Game speeds make this number drain faster. Fighting Ganon on the lowest game speed would probably take more than 24 hours. So thus, unlocking game speeds will ultimately make you level up faster. Seeing a new game speed appear on the screen will seem like a great accomplishment and relief.
With the gold you have, you can purchase various items. The more expensive the potion, the more HP it will heal. It's pointless to invest in a medium potion at the beginning of the game, because a small potion is enough to fully max out your HP. Once you start feeling as if the small potions aren't doing enough, you may want to start buying medium potions. The full restore will fill up your HP to it's maximum. The other two things you can buy are the Attack Plus and HP Plus. These are the two best items in the game, and you can buy infinite of them. The price goes up everytime you buy one, and so does their affect on your stats. At first, the HP Plus may only increase your HP by 1, but after upgrading a few times, they may increase it by 20 or 30.
When you are done playing, make sure you save the game. The game does not automatically save, so if you don't, you will lose all of the data since your last save. Please enjoy the game, and if you have any questions, feel free to ask me, or someone else who may know the answer.
Hints & Tips
You start out with five potions, so you have more than enough to get yourself going.
You can use items while you are in battle, so if you are being drained of HP feel free to use a potion, and the battle will continue.
If you have a lot of HP and you are fighting weak enemies, try holding down the enter key to continuously attack and generate a steady stream of gold and experience.
The HP Plus and Attack Plus are very important items and contribute more to your stats than leveling up does.
Make sure you save the game when you are done playing, or else you will lose all of the progress you made since your last save.
Try changing the skin around a bit. It will make the game more personalized and will make the overall experience more fun.
